Village walk and picnic

Walk through Schmilka's streets and history with a picnic The short hike through the Schifferdörfchen starts at the Elbwiesen of the Hotel Helvetia with a view of the chain of rocks of the Schrammsteinwand. In addition, you will learn interesting stories about the old craft of stone quarrying and the adventurous beer barrel transport through the quarries. It follows stories about the Elbschifffahrtsgeschichte of the Kettenschleppschifffahrt, the Bohemian rafts up to the historic paddle steamers of the Saxon Steamship Company. With regard to the Czech Hrensko, Andrea Bigge reports on border trade conditions over the centuries. Past the Café Richter, up the Mühlberg, you will learn interesting things from the development of the lumbering community to the Schifferdorf, to the history of the old mill with bakery and inn from then until today. From the Schmilka Ilm spring to the Grenzweg followed by a picnic at the lookout point, with a view of Schmilka and the Elbe valley, you will hear stories about funny village scenes. The excursion ends with information on nature and geology in the national park such. For example, the last ice age violets and ferns in the Schmilka core zones or the Winterberg as a former volcano.
